If You’ve Been Throwing Money at “Make Money Online” Products and Haven’t Seen Results, or You’re Just Wondering Where To Get Started in Internet Marketing…Listen To My Story

Three months ago, I decided that I wanted to pursue some sort of income from my home that I could work on outside of my day job.  Ironically, it was sparked by my wife, who had tried a couple of these emails you get about at home jobs, and they predictably didn’t go very well.

Now, I’m not going to tell you how much money I’m making online yet…It would defeat the purpose of the message I’m trying to send.  I’ll get to that at the end, but I’ll at least tell you that I’ll be quitting my day job in the next 6 months.

I want to fill you in on how I got here first.  I bet it’s similar to a lot of you out there…

My wife actually signed up for one of those “survey taking $100/day for a couple hours of work” things that she thought seemed totally legit.  She figured out within a week that she had been completely ripped off and blown the $50 it took to start up.  She tried to contact them to get it back, and never got a response…

I was a little mad, and looked into the site, and reviews for it, etc.  I started to realize that there were a huge amount of these things out there.  Everywhere you look, someone has a get rich quick scheme, and now that I’ve talked to enough people that have tried them, 90% of them seem to be rip-offs.

One of the things I found though, while sifting through all the scams, was a lot of people talking about affiliate marketing.  I’m sure if you made it to this page, you know what an affiliate is, but in case you don’t, an affiliate is someone who helps drive traffic to a merchant.  They don’t “work for” the merchant, but if they send them buyers, they will get a commission for any sales.

Now my day job is in Internet Advertising Sales for a big classified ad company.  So a lot of this stuff made total sense to me from a sales standpoint.

How brilliant is it for a merchant to have a ton of sales people out there helping them sell their product, and they don’t have to do any work or spend any advertising money?  You just pay the affiliate a portion of your profit.  It made so much sense!  They’re making sales to people that likely never would have found them anyway, so even if they share the profit, they’re making a lot more money.  Both parties win big.

So of course while I’m reading through all these different advertisements and blogs and articles on Internet Marketing, and Affiliate Marketing, I came across some of the same things over and over again.  Some of them were obvious scams where you needed to spend $300-$1,000 to get started and I’m fortunate that I didn’t fall for them.  Months later I’ve now met many people that have, and we all laugh (or cry a little inside) about it.  But we’ve moved on.

But there was one recurring theme that kept popping up: it was a site called Wealthy Affiliate University.  Just like I was skeptical about everything else, I was skeptical about Wealthy Affiliate.

The difference was that I found quite a few blog posts on peoples personal blogs where they weren’t talking about how WA was “the next best thing to make a million dollars online fast”.

They were talking about how much they’ve learned and how incredible the atmosphere is inside Wealthy Affiliate.  They talked about how learning how to do internet marketing is a huge first step to owning your own online business.  And although it isn’t a “Get Rich Quick” scheme at all, it’s totally possible to have a major income from it.

The honesty of the posts really struck me, and for $39 I thought “why not give it a try for a month?”

My Wealthy Affiliate Experience

Now here’s the interesting part: I have learned so much at Wealthy Affiliate in two months that I couldn’t believe it.  I’m not going to get into a big list of things they offer, but the main thing is information.  Almost anything Internet Marketing related can be found inside Wealthy Affiliate, and they have a huge amount of resources, tutorials, and tools.  Not to mention free web hosting, a great free website builder (for us web noobs) as well as many different methods and strategies, from using Google Adwords, to lots of free advertising methods.  But that’s not even what blew me away!

I suppose there are other places to find a lot of “information” on how to do things in Internet Marketing, like ebooks, or $1000 internet guru courses, or forums full of people who “might” know what they’re talking about…

But what happens when you have a question?

What if you don’t understand something clearly?

What if you need something explained to you differently than what you’re reading from the book you just bought?

Or maybe you need a guide or some personal help to get through something?

Or help on how to build a website?

What blew me away with Wealthy Affiliate is that so many of the members have found success due to what they learned there that they regularly help others in the member forums.  And they’re happy to do it!

I’ve never been around a group of people so anxious to see others succeed.  And every one of them will tell you that they help others because they want to give back to the community that helped them.

A ton of these people are now making full time incomes in Internet Marketing, but still take the time to help people in the forums every day!

So, back to my situation.  I hate my day job, but it pays the bills.  But I realized pretty quickly I could make some side money using what I was learning at Wealthy Affiliate, and maybe down the road be able to replace my income.

So I started following some of the many methods you can try out that the wealthy affiliates walk you through, and had a ton of questions to ask the other members.  I got a ton of quick answers, and before I knew it, I made a couple sales.

And then some more.

And then it started to become consistent…

Now, by no means am I going to tell you that I’m already rich and quit my job and I’m flying on my Jet to Bermuda next week.

But what I will tell you is that after a couple months I’m making about $40-$50 per day from the things I’ve gotten started with no investment out of my pocket.

Now, that might not seem like a lot, but if you do the math, that’s a pretty cool side income of about $1500 per month…or $18,000 per year… And I now know a process that I can repeat and make more money as I put more work into it.

I know that within 3 more months I’ll be well over the $100/day mark, and I know that when I hit $200/day sometime in 2009, I’ll be quitting my day job and doing this full time.

And imagine what can happen when I do that and can spend 6, 8 or 10 hours per day on it instead of the 2 or 3  hours I spend per day now. I imagine it will be quite a lot of money.  And there are many people in Wealthy Affiliate who have gone through that same process, at different paces.  And it is amazing how they all want to give back to the community and teach others how to do the same thing.

If you’re looking for a get rich quick scheme, save your money, and my time.  There’s no such thing as an online job that makes you tons of money with no work.  Anyone telling you differently is trying to rip you off.
